Patients often wonder what an eye examination consist of. Below is a list of tests that is regularly performed during a routine eye examination. It is recommended that all patients have a yearly eye examination. This allows the doctor to determine whether your prescription has changed and also to catch vision problems and eye disease at an earlier stage
VISUAL ACUITY TEST
This eye chart test measures how well you see at various distances.
DEPTH PERCEPTION CHECK
Examination to check your 3-D vision.
COLOR VISION TEST
Checks for color blindness. Approx. 5% of men are color deficient.
NEAR VISION TEST
Tests your vision at near.
DISTANCE VISION TEST
Tests your vision at distance.
PERIPHERAL VISION SCREENING TEST
Test your side vision.
BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING
Screens for Hypertension due to High blood pressure.
COMPUTERIZED PRESCRIPTION SCREENING
An Autorefractor gives the doctor a ball park estimation of your prescription.
Screens for Glaucoma and measures the pressure inside the eyes.
Screens for Cataract and determines whether or not cataract surgery is indicated.
HEALTH HISTORY REVIEW
Certain health related conditions such as Diabetes, Hypertension, High Cholesterol, and many other conditions can easily affect the eyes.
Examines the retina to rule out pathology such as Diabetic retinopathy(bleeding), Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Cholesterol plaques, Blood vessel thinning, Retinal holes, Tears, Detachments, Tumors, etc.
Examines the corneal integrity to rule out corneal diseases, dry eyes, and to make sure that the cornea is healthy enough to wear contact lens.
MUSCLE BALANCE CHECK
Tests for lazy eye and make sure that your two eyes are functioning together and have a full range of motion.
EYE HEALTH CONSULTATION
EXPLANATION OF PRESCRIPTION
Determines where you are near-sighted, far-sighted, whether you have astigmatism, or the need for reading glasses and bifocals.
